President Patil takes an hour ride in Metro

The Delhi Metro register has now has the signature of President of India, as President Pratibha Patil took an hour ride on the Delhi Metro with high security today.

The President had boarded a special four-coach train from Udyog Bhawan station and went up to Sultanpur and returned from there.

She was accompanied by senior Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and Rashtrapati Bhavan officials during her one-hour ride.

The DMRC showcased the facilities and technologies being undertaken in the Metro. She was also shown an exhibition on Metro's history and other statistics during the short trip.

President was keen to visit the Metro as it is becomes the lifeline of the Delhi and NCR areas.

The DMRC had also assured that normal operations of the Metro were carried out during Patil's trip.

Air India pilots officially call-off their 58-day strike

Air India pilots have called-off their strike officially after the Delhi High Court asked them to join duty within 48 hours and the management to sympathetically consider their grievances.
 

The decision to end the 58-day strike was announced by the Indian Pilots' Guild (IPG) after a meeting of its Managing Committee in Mumbai.In a statement issued late Tuesday night, the IPG General Secretary E A Kapadia said, the striking pilots have started the procedure to resume work after the Delhi High Court's intervention.

Further, the statement said that the IPG looks forward tonegotiations with the Air India management on all pending issues in the presence of the Chief Labour Commissioner.

Justice Reva Khetrapal asked the Air India management to consider sympathetically the pilots' grievances including the reinstatement of those pilots whose services were terminated during the strike.
 

The striking pilots had earlier on Tuesday promised the Delhi High Court that they would return to work within the next 48 hours.
