Maharashtra government is all set to introduce an online system for caste validation within six months in the state.
The proposed system would lessen the hassles in getting the caste validity certificate, which is mandatory if one wants to get benefit of caste-based reservations in jobs or education institutes, etc. But there is opposition from within the bureaucracy.
An official from the Social justice Department said that in this system clerks will not be involved so this would become similar to the passport system.
The officials are hopeful also that the system would curb the corruption.
The system is currently working in Mumbai and suburbs on a pilot basis and expected to implement within the state in six months.
Social Justice Minister Shivajirao Moghe had made the announcement on implementation of online system during the budget session of Maharashtra legislature this year.
