Shettar sworn in as New CM of Karnataka

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Jagadish Shettar has taken an oath as the third Chief Minister of Karnataka at the glass house of Raj Bhavan today.

A new Cabinet was also sworn-in along with him.

Governor HR Bhardwaj had administered the oath of office and secrecy to Shettar at a simple ceremony.

State unit BJP President KS Eshwarappa and R Ashoka were sworn in as Deputy Chief Ministers.

The 56 year old Shettar had succeeded former Chief Minister DV Sadananda Gowda, who was forced out of office without completing a year following months of disagreement planted by the BJP's first Chief Minister in southern India, BS Yeddyurappa. Yeddyurappa was shown the door by the party last July over mining bribery charges.

Shettar is a four-time legislator representing Hubli rural constituency in Dharwad district, about 400 km north of Bangalore.
