Pipili rape case: Victim dies after 6 months in Coma



A Dalit girl, who was allegedly gangraped in Odisha last year, died in Cuttack hospital today after remaining in coma for over six months.  

The girl who was suffering from Septicaemia (an infection in which large amounts of bacteria are present in the blood) and severe respiratory and cardiological complication breathed her last in the morning.

 19 year old victim was gangraped on November 28 by some people near her village, Arjunagoda, 10 Km from state capital Bhubaneshwar.

According to the family members, the girl was gangraped by a group of men who had earlier assaulted her in 2008 and against whom she had filed a molestation case.

The incident came to light when the girl was initially denied proper denied treatment at different hospitals.

Following intervention of Orissa High Court, the 19-year-old victim was moved to the hospital on January 11 from the Capital Hospital where she had been admitted on January 9, 2012.

After 400-Page charge sheet filed by the Crime branch of the Odisha Police in a lower court saying, no evidence of the incident National Commission for Women (NCW) intervene in the matter and visited the place.

A team of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) also denied any possibility of rape after proper investigation.  

State agriculture minister Pradip Maharathy, who had been charged with shielding the persons accused in the rape case, had resigned on "moral ground" on January 19.

The Crime Branch has arrested four persons so far in the case.
