As State and Centre Governments are getting aggressive on Maoist issues and putting ‘Operation Green Hunt’ and ‘Salwa judum’, a huge number of people are still favoring them. New name of Maoist sympathiser is Veteran Bollywood actor Om Puri, who drew criticism earlier for his controversial comments against parliamentarians, called Maoists “fighters not terrorists”
The 61-year-old actor, who is in Pachmarhi to shoot for Prakash Jha’s ‘Chakravyuh’, said Maoists were fighters who did not trouble the common man. Justifying the kidnapping of Sukma District Collector Alex Paul Menon, Puri said that the Maoists kidnapped him because he supported the social system against which they are fighting.
“They (Maoists) are not terrorists because they don’t resort to irresponsible acts of terror by planting bombs on streets. Maoists are fighters who fight for their rights. They don’t harass the common man and the poor,” Puri said on Thursday evening.
Om Puri is not the only one who backed Maoist moment openly but people of intellect class are also supporting and raising voices in their favor. Few days back eminent social activist and former Team Anna member Swami Agnivesh blamed the government for ‘doing nothing’ to address the rights of tribal’s and accused Home Minister P Chidambram ‘biggest murderer of democracy.
Renowned civil rights activist, Dr Binayak Sen was found guilty of sedition for helping Maoists and was sentenced to life term. Binayak Sen got the bail later.
In addition, Booker Prize winner Arundhati Roy also raised the voice of tribal people said that maoist are being forced into violence by state and center government.
