Seven states of Northern India including national capital Delhi had plunged to darkness last night following a major power failure. Power supply in the region was severely affected due to failure of Northern Grid at about 2:30 am.
Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde said that the fault is found near Agra and emergency power services are being provided to the VVIP areas. The power supply was finally restored at around 9 am.
A senior Power Grid Corporation official that the actual reason for the grid failure is being ascertained. Among the affected states are Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir and Rajasthan.
The power failure hit train services in the region. A railway official said that the trains stranded in remote areas are being brought to railway stations. Delhi Metro services were also affected.
