A group of city Muslims visited Lord Jagannath temple in Ahmadabad today, as a mark of harmony and peace, ahead of 135 annual 'Rath Yatra' on June 21.
Muslims in the city make this gesture of communal harmony every year, barring some communally disturbed times.
The rath yatra in Ahmedabad is a grand affair - second only to the one in Puri. The procession will feature the chariots of Lord Jagannath, Subhadra and Baldev, decorated trucks and traditional dancing troupes. During the daylong affair, the procession will pass through most walled city areas.
The police too are busy making elaborate security arrangements for the day, as the yatra passes through some communally sensitive areas of the city.
This is absolutely a symbol of brotherhood between the two major religious groups in India.
