Congress in trouble: corruption Charges framed against Virbhadra Singh

With a series of corruption charges mounting up against the members of the ruling United Progressive Alliance (UPA), a fresh charge of corruption against Union Minister of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises Virbhadra Singh has taken Congress in the back foot today.

A city court has framed charges of corruption against Virbhadra and his wife Pratibha Singh.
Special Judge B.L. Soni had pronounced the order in the court. The prosecution had filed the charge sheet against the former Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh and his Wife in October 2010.

The charges were based on a CD that reportedly had Vibhadra talking about financial irregularities in the context of industrialists who wanted to invest in Himachal Pradesh. The CD was released in 2007 by a political rival, Vijay Singh Mankotia.

Since then, the controversial CD had created a war of words between Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal and Virbhadra. Dhumal after returning to power in 2007 had ordered the vigilance to investigate about the CD and its contents and finally allowed the registration of the FIR.
