UGC withheld Master level courses in IIMC, asks to revise its proposal

New Delhi: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has withheld the permission to upgrade the journalism diploma courses offered at the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) to masters’ level as planned by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I&B).

The IIMC has been asked to revise its proposal for the same and resubmit it to UGC and Ministry of Human Resources Department (HRD).

The IIMC, which is the country's premier journalism institute and its three regional centres in Aizawl, Dhenkenal and Amravati, currently offers Diploma courses in journalism and advertising.

Earlier, I&B ministry in its standing finance committee had initiated to seek equivalence to masters’ degree for the post graduate diploma courses from HRD Ministry.

However, UGC has observed that the course and curriculums of IIMC is not up to the mark of masters’ level in its present state.
